The Sr. Technical Writer/ CMS Solutions Architect also ensures Tech Pubs are improved upon by conducting process analyses, building style sheets, tracking change requests, and trending issues. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:Document/Content Accuracy and Usability: Ensure documentation is audit ready, functional, and accurately reflects the companys policies, procedures, process flows and controls.Supports the development, production, writing, internal and external reviews, submittals, releases, distribution and control of company publication documents, such as: General Maintenance Manual (GMM), Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM), General Operations Manual (GOM), Administrative Manual (ADM), Pilot Operational Handbook (POH), flight procedures, User Guides, and other supporting engineering or operational documents.Advises engineering management in matters relating to the compliance and U.S. Export Regulations. Champions the development and maintenance of ITAR compliance methodology. Enforces publications ITAR compliance within the Engineering and Technical Operations Department.Works with VG technical support engineers, project engineers, program managers, and the sub-contract managers to ensure availability of all necessary information that will be needed in preparation of maintenance documents.Communicate revision process and project status regularly and proactively, especially when there are roadblocks or successful completion is at risk.Review submitted content from the subject matter experts for completeness, level of detail, risk assessments, content organization, and overall understandability by all readers.Change Tracking Management: For change tracking, approval tracking, and audit purposes, maintain the CR datasets, to include the retention of pertinent communications with department management, Technical Publications team, members of the Manual Impact Board and other key personnel.Conducting an evaluation of the CMS architecture with an emphasis on the design.Ensuring that the application architecture enterprise team can deliver system solutions for Technical and Central Publications CMS architecture.Identifying, testing and managing risk: Identify and evaluate the risk to eliminate or mitigate risk in the CMS ensuring solid interface management with the wider enterprise network.Ensure maintenance of all current and previously published editions of manuals and documents on a secure network drive for version control, audit, and archive purposes.Collaborate with the E-Publisher/Technical Librarian to ensure timely updates and distributions are maintained.Collaborate with the Technical Writing team to report CR status to ensure that revision cycle timelines are met while supporting department work flow.Documentation, Process Analysis, Tracking and Trending: Analyze reported document specific or system-wide manual set issues, determine affected data, make solution recommendations, implement fixes, and conduct usability tests.Audit Controls: Conduct document, database and site audits both scheduled and random, to ensure information is consistent and compliant.Process Improvement: Identify trends and communicate suggestions for improving efficiency and effectiveness of existing publications processes to ensure accuracy, usability, and currency of documentation.Quality Assurance: Ensure evaluation of process flows and controls are captured. Facilitate resolution of questions, comments and suggestions back to the Technical Publications Manager so as to cooperatively achieve the best end product possible.Works with technical operations, maintenance, quality and engineering Managers/Directors to implement changes to the released maintenance, airworthiness, mission operations documents and general VG policy manuals. Facilitate the safety, quality and engineering verification and validation of procedures and the engineer's review of the technical accuracy of information contained in the AMMs and other maintenance documentation as applicable. What you bring: Basic RequirementsBachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Technical Communication IT, Aviation or Aerospace engineering or related technical discipline from a recognized institution. Masters degree preferredHigh level of proficiency in matters relating to preparation of the technical data, product support data, logistic data, and technical publications documents.Excellent knowledge of the aerospace industry standards and specifications.Possess detailed demonstrated working knowledge of desktop publishing software and publishing tools, with a strong base in SGML/XML/S1000D markup languages. CSDB knowledge and CMS implementation expertise a plus.Strong background and previous experience and involvement in implementation of technical publications platforms and management.Excellent writing skills.Demonstrated ability in solving complex technical problems and a strong ownership and drive to bring issues to closure.Demonstrated ability in leadership, excellent communication, and organizational skills. Applicants must be U.S. persons as defined by the ITAR (22 CFR 120.15)Desired Skills and ExperienceAt least seven years experience working in a senior role in a Title 14, Part 121 or 135 air carrier or Original Equipment Manufacturer Aerospace technical publications environment. Demonstrated working knowledge in a DOD environment a plus. Experience working in a regulated and centralized Technical Publications environment under Safety Management Systems or a Quality Management Systems.Technical Writer training experience a plus.Demonstrated working knowledge of style sheet and transform development, DITA, XSLT, XML, S1000D etc.General illustration experience is a plus.Technical illustration creation software knowledge.
