Job Description:
Job Objective: Reporting to the Director of Rehabilitation
Services, provides for the carrying out of patient referrals under
the general direction of the referring physician to support the
Direction of Rehabilitation Services, the Physical Therapy
Supervisor and the Rehabilitation Services Department.Essential
Duties and Responsibilities:A. Provision of Patient Care
- Performs Occupational. Therapy evaluations as ordered by a
physician.
- Based on the evaluation, develops treatment programs with
appropriate treatment objectives which are mutually agreed upon by
the patient.
- Provides for the implementation of proper treatment programs
through themselves or through supervision of an occupational
therapy assistant or aide.
- Periodically evaluates the patient's response to treatment and
alters the program as appropriate with the physician's
approval.
- Administers standard diagnostic or prognostic assessment or
occupational performance components, including neuromuscular,
sensori-integrative, cognitive and psychosocial skills.
- Performs therapy services in both the inpatient and outpatient
settings and Home Health patients as assigned.
- Administers assessments and treatment of occupational
performance including independent daily living skills and
functional abilities, work adjustment, play/leisure abilities and
educational and social skills.B. Communication
- Maintains appropriate patient records including the initial
evaluation, daily treatment charting, progress reports, and
discharge summary in the patient's medical record.
- Documentation on the Multidisciplinary Care Plan and Teaching
Record.
- Communicates effectively verbally and with written
communications to referring physicians.
- Provides timely and accurate billing information specific to
patient interventions provided.
- Maintains effective relationships with physicians, physician's
offices, other departments within the hospital, coworkers and
patients.C. Administrative
- Maintains patient and employee confidentiality.
- Maintains adequate attendance and punctuality.
- Maintains a professional appearance and good personal
hygiene.
- Participation in departmental staff meetings.
- Demonstration of proper safety practices in the clinic and on
the hospital floors.
- Participation in the established weekend and holiday staffing
rotations.
- Participation in the Performance Improvement process in the
Rehabilitation Services Department.Non-Essential Duties:
- Performance of housekeeping tasks in their work area.
- Participation in patient education and forms development.
- Participation in continuing education for patients, hospital
employees or outside customers.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Knowledge of the theory, techniques and practices of accepted
occupational therapy treatments for geriatric, adult, adolescent
and child patient populations.
- Knowledge of the English language and possess good composition
skills for the purposes of written communication.
- Knowledge of Antelope Valley Hospital's hospital information
system (HIS).Skills
- Administration of occupational therapy treatments in the acute
care, outpatient and home health care settings.o Accurate
assessment of a patient's progress on the basis of judgmental
criteria and measurable or verifiable criteria.
- Supervision and training of physical therapy assistants and
aides.
- Training of non-medical persons to assist with a patient's home
program/management.Abilities
- Communicate effectively while maintaining good working
relationships with coworkers, managers, hospital staff, physicians,
patients and outside customers.

- Graduation from an American Occupational Therapy Association's
Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) or
American Occupational Therapy Association's (AOTA) predecessor
organization or AOTA's Career Mobility Program approved
Occupational Therapy program.Experience
- Preference of 1 year of acute care patient clinical
experience.Required Licensure and/or Certifications:
- Possession of a valid license as a Registered Occupational
Therapist issued by the Board of Medical Examiners, State of
California or eligible for license.
- American Heart Association BLS CPR certification.AVH

Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Position will require frequent sitting, standing, walking,
bending, twisting and reaching.
- Frequently requires lifting in excess of 50 lbs and
pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs.
- Potential exposure to radiation, chemicals and biohazard which
will require use of PPE.A detailed description of the physical
