YOUR POSITION: The Major Gifts Officer (Sothern California Region) is responsible for the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of donors capable of making major gifts of $10,000 and up to power California State Parks Foundation's efforts in protecting and preserving California state parks. This position will build an effective prospect management system to manage donors and help raise funds to have an impact on our goals of Climate Resiliency, Equitable Access, Protecting Wildlife and Nature, Honoring History and Culture, Park Experiences, and Park Funding. The position requires significant strategic thinking and donor management to develop a specific plan where a potential donor can be moved from a financial prospect to major gift, and superior coordination skills to work with cross-functional teams. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are required for building relationships with donors and their advisors, ensuring they feel connected to and value the work they are supporting. This position will facilitate work from a remote location in Southern California with the ability to cultivate and engage donors in Los Angeles, San Diego, Orange, Santa Barbara, Ventura, San Bernardino, Riverside and Imperial counties.   • Employee life, long- & short-term disability insurance ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Develop an understanding of and effectively communicate California State Parks Foundation's vision, strategic objectives, goals, and initiatives to major donors and other constituencies.
    • In fiscal year 2022/23, partner with the Director of Philanthropy to grow the Leadership Circle donor program by 15-17% and raise $250k in major gifts to support the organizations' Building Climate Resilient Parks and Equitable Access initiatives.
    • Manage portfolios of 150-200 donors and prospects and 20-30 Legacy Donors.
    • Develop high trust relationships with donors, donor prospects, and partners.
    • Collaboratively work to identify and pursue prospective major donors.
    • Create fundraising strategies for each person in your portfolio based on the donor's history of giving and the organization's knowledge of that donor's potential.
    • Engage in face-to-face and virtual solicitation of major gifts.
    • Partner with Board members, senior staff, and program staff on donor engagement opportunities.
    • Provide support to senior staff and Board members in preparation for solicitations, including developing appropriate briefing materials in advance of meetings.
    • Develop and execute cultivation and stewardship opportunities for donors and prospects in the portfolio and participate in donor-focused events.
    • Recruit donors to attend programs and events.
    • Track portfolio activity and progress in the donor database.
    • Create reports that accurately reflect portfolio activity and performance.
    • Provide stewardship of gifts from all donors within your portfolio, reporting back to donors on impact and outcomes achieved.
    • Participate in and contribute to the Development Department and California State Parks Foundation advancement planning and strategy meetings.
    • Attend the organization's Board and Advancement Committee meetings.
    • Travel Required: Approximately 40%
    • Other duties as assigned Requirements:
      • 3+ years major gift fundraising experience
      • Commitment to California State Parks Foundation's mission
      • Ability and willingness to travel across California to tour any of the 279 state parks as needed, occasionally engaging in vigorous outdoor activities
      • Strong analytical abilities and problem-solving skills
      • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills
      • Demonstrated initiative and self-motivation
      • Flexible in the face of changing priorities
      • High integrity: ability to maintain confidentiality and operate with discretion
      • Collaborative team player who pitches in to do what needs to be done
      • Highly organized; experience developing processes and procedures
      • Impeccable attention to detail
      • Ability to adhere to deadlines
      • Ability to work occasional weekends and evenings PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
        • Familiarity with the California state park system, environmental and/or conservation practices
        • Knowledge of state and federal rules governing 501(c)3 organizations and lobbying
        • Knowledge of Salesforce nonprofit software and Wealth Engine application
        • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications
        • Familiarity with workplace productivity tools like Asana, Slack, and Zoom
        • Demonstrated project management abilities
        • Confident and comfortable in public speaking and facilitating meetings
