Overview

The Project Engineer will assist project teams to manage designs for new projects, alterations and redevelopments on electrical substation projects. The Project Engineer will work with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting electrical plans according to budget constraints, design factors or client needs.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the electrical design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.
  • Assists with modifying and reviewing production drawings.
  • Applies basic knowledge of commonly used electrical concepts, practices, codes, and procedures within the electrical engineering services industry.
  • Assists with research and complies project related data as required by the project managers.
  • Assists with correcting and updating drawings provided by senior engineers to verify corrections are made within multiple CAD related software.
  • Assists with client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration for substation projects.
  • Assists in performing field inspections, measurements or calculations.
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Provides support to Project Managers on various electric substation projects
  • Understands project scope, cost, and schedule
  • Works with project team and stakeholders for all project related duties
  • Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling and resolving engineering design and test problems
  • Review design drawings for constructability, design and accuracy at 30%, 60%, 90% and 95% design levels
  • Work with Project Manager to select special design options
  • Oversees drawings produced by others
  • Directs integration of technical activities and products
  • Supports client meetings with stakeholders and vendors
  • Keeps track of project schedule to ensure project is executed in a timely manner
  • Ensures all work is completed in a safe, efficient, and quality manner
  • Coordinates with project team to mitigate risks associated with project
  • Evaluates and approves design changes, specification and drawing releases
  • All other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering with emphasis in Power Systems or related degree with 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in electric utility overhead and underground distribution design. Preferred experience in pole replacement, OH to UG conversion and Wildfire Mitigation Program project work. Protection experiences are an added benefit
    • Master of Science degree in Engineering may be substituted for one year of experience.
    • Successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) strongly preferred.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
    • Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)
    • Computer skills include AutoCAD, Osmose O-calc, Etap, SKM , PLS-CADD and other analysis programs.
    • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem solving skills.
